“It is a fair, even-handed, noble adjustment of things, that while there is infection in disease and sorrow, there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.” ― Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
"A Christmas Carol" is one of the most famous and popular works by Charles Dickens (to see on the last picture, which is not included in the book) and was originally published on December 19th, 1843 and was sold out by Christmas Eve.
This beautiful volume was published in 1915 by William Heinemann and features illustrations of Arthur Racklam, one of Great Britain's most important illustrators; he is a master in the use of colour and created a very personal and unique style to illustrate this well known classic.
The story about Ebenezer Scrooge and his past and current sins, visiting in form of ghosts on Christmas Eve and show him the dimensions of his actions, is one of the great classics of world literature. Including life lessons and scary elements to point up the importance of being good and considerate. Dickens was inspired by his own youth and the destiny of many poor children being sick and working under poorly conditions during the time of industrialization. He even wanted to publish a political pamphlet with the title "An Appeal to the People of England, on behalf of the Poor Man's Child", but postponed its publishing date.
The book is in good condition, it does show signs of wear, a few scratches and bumps on the cover and a few slightly yellowed pages, but is all in all well preserved and really good to read.
