"We need a reason for speaking, we need none for keeping silent." - Pierre Nicole

Here comes the special opportunity to buy two works by Pierre Nicole: "Instructions theologiques et morales sur le premier commandement du decalogue, ou il est traité de la foy, de l'esperance & de la charité" (translates to "Theological and moral instructions on the first commandment of the Decalogue, where faith, hope & charity are discussed") and "Essais d'instructions theologiques et morales sur le symbole" (translates to "Essays of theological and moral instructions on the symbol"), were published in 1723 by Charles Osmont in Paris.

Pierre Nicole was a french theologist and logical thinker and advocate of jansenism. His works had a special meaning and popularity to the members of the enlightenment, but he was well discussed and highly valued by many popular people of his time. In Paris, there is still a street, that was named after him.

Unfortunately, these two works are both second parts of two different pairs, but anyway parted in theme sections.

The books are in good condition, but with wetness stains. In my opinion, there is no wetness anymore. There are bumps and cracks in the book's spine and on the edges of both books. The interior is in well condition, but shows writings of one of the previous owners. Whether these writings deliver any message, if they are a code for something or only scribbling is not possibly said by me. Maybe a little mystery to solve? All in all, these books are witnesses of much history lived and an enrichment to any bookshelf.
