“Too much knowing is misery.”― Lorenzo de' Medici

"The Life of Lorenzo di Medici" written by William Roscoe, published in 1799 by Basil and printed by J. J. Tourneisen is a written documentation in three parts, of the life of Lorenzo di Medici, who was also called "the Magnificient".

He was a banker and politician in the Florence of the 15th century and was part of the well known "Medici" family. After his father's death, he became the "leader of the republic Florence", but the title was just representative, without actual power; so he had to pull the strings in the backround and soon established himself als protegé of the people with more power, which was a great value to him. The funds he needed to increase and hold this influental position, grandfather Cosimo made with the "banco medici" and their influence on politics. Sometimes even with shady and cunning methods. Maybe these were also the reason, it went downwards with Lorenzos' ambitions...but read for yourself !

In these beautifully created books, still in the original leather clothing; with golden imprints and decorations, as well as marbled start- and endpapers and marbled text block edges. The condition is good, with slight bumps on the edges, scratches and material loss on some parts of the covers, but cleaness and completeness on the inside.

A must have for every historical interested person or everyone with an eye for aesthetically pleasingly made books, in search for an addition to an exquisite book collection.
